Halo
The Xbox-defining sci-fi FPS series that set the benchmark for console shooters and then spent two decades trying to live up to its own launch title.

Halo: Combat Evolved didn't just launch the Xbox — it rewrote what a console FPS could be. The 30-second loop of grenade, shoot, melee is one of the most-studied gameplay patterns in the medium, and the Master Chief's silhouette remains one of the few video game figures recognisable outside gaming entirely.
The series' arc since then is complicated. Bungie's run through Reach is widely considered one of the strongest trilogies-plus in the genre. 343's tenure has been uneven, with Halo Infinite finally recovering the franchise's footing in a way that made the 2024 return feel earned rather than obligatory.
The hub covers the Bungie era's highs, the 343 era's ambitions, and the question every Halo fan is asking now: after Infinite, what's the next real step for the series?
