Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — A Bold Reimagining
Square Enix takes the beloved FFVII saga in unexpected directions. Here's our full review of the second chapter in the remake trilogy.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth doesn't just retell a classic story — it reimagines it with confidence and ambition that few remakes dare to attempt.

The Open World Approach
Rebirth's biggest departure from Remake is its open-world structure. Each region of the world map feels distinct and purpose-built, avoiding the copy-paste design that plagues many open-world games.
The exploration loop is satisfying: discover a new area, find its secrets, engage with its unique activities, and move on before it overstays its welcome. Not every region lands equally well, but the variety keeps things fresh across the game's considerable runtime.
Combat at Its Peak
The combat system builds on Remake's excellent foundation with meaningful additions. The Synergy system adds tactical depth to party management, and the expanded roster means you're constantly discovering new team compositions.
Boss fights remain the highlight. Each major encounter is a multi-phase spectacle that tests your understanding of the combat systems while delivering incredible visual and narrative moments.
A Story That Dares
Without spoiling specifics, Rebirth takes bold narrative swings. It respects the original while charting its own course, creating genuine tension even for players who know every beat of the 1997 classic.
The character writing is exceptional. Seeing these beloved characters interact with more nuance and depth than the original could deliver is consistently rewarding.
The Verdict
An ambitious and emotionally resonant RPG that expands on Remake's foundation while forging its own identity. The strongest middle chapter the modern Square Enix has produced.
